Darkness to Light

She opened her eyes with a vague sense of hope. But darkness was all that she could sense around her. Thick, heavy darkness. The kind of darkness that leaves you gasping for breath. The kind of darkness that overpowers you, crushes you and becomes one with you. So much so that you wonder about your very existence. So much so that you believe that darkness is life, darkness is a part of your being and that darkness is you.

But she chose to differ. She chose to fight. She believed from the deepest part of her soul, that darkness had nothing to do with her. She was the daughter of the light. The kind of light in which existed not even a speck of darkness. She thought of happy times. Times of love, times of joy. And as she thought, rather forced herself to think, she could feel her heart beat. With every beat the pain intensified. Her head felt as if it was about to explode into a million pieces. Every part of her body began to hurt. A glimmer of light pierced through her eyes.

She looked behind. It was pitch dark. Thick, heavy darkness. Darkness waiting to pounce on her, devour her, engulf her. She looked away, towards the glimmer of light and made up her mind. She began to move towards the light. One step at a time. A sense of hope dawned upon her. Her pace quickened. Her legs began to move faster and before she could realize, she was running. Running at a speed she never thought she could ever run at. She ran against the the pull of darkness, against the tide, against hopelessness. She ran with all her strength.

"Beep, Beep" the heart monitor went on. "Doctor, the patient has revived," cried the nurse.

  1. "She ran with all her strength" from darkness to light.
    Nice thought Jessy, well done!
Eagerly waiting for your next piece of work.
