An Escape Into Fantasy

She walked with random steps:
some long, some short,
some fast, some slow.
Lost in thoughts,
away from self;
her feet dragged her along.

The roads were almost empty,
the streets as though abandoned.
Where did all the people go?
She wondered,
but did not stop to look.

The last song was left unsung,
A story incomplete or so,
But how did it matter now?

She heard some voices behind,
but did not turn to see.
The voices from her past,
that tormented her,
ridiculed her, used her.

She fastened her pace.
Broke into a run.
But where was she running to?
The voices would soon come for her.

But how did it matter now?
For she had conquered her fears,
she had silenced the voices.

Her hands gave away,
And what appeared now,
looked like wings.
Oh, how she had longed for them,
And now it had come true.

She flung her wings in the air,
her body fighting the gravity,
as she rose up and flew,
into the sky and over the clouds.
She soared in the wide blue atmosphere,
the past was now mere history,
and her pains just a vague memory.

For she had escaped into fantasy!
